Ok, i was wrong about the bears
not only did they not cave into the saint’s pressure, they actually put up 23 points in the second half while holding brees and co to the aforementioned bush 88 yard TD.
how did they pull this off? well, defense as usual. holding the saints to 14 points total is not bad at all. but more importantly, they didn’t put the whole game in grossman’s hands - they had a good balanced attack with bears RBs getting a combined 183 yards and 3 TDs. grossman was only 11-26 for 144 yards - but no interceptions. he actually did a decent job of throwing the ball away when under pressure.
kind of reminds me of the raven’s super bowl run - dilfer was Ok, not an all start, but not horrible. he just kept the team in the game, and the defense did the rest. remember super bowl XXXV? dilfer had only 152 yards passing, 12 completions and 1 TD, but NO interceptions. Jamal lewis added on another Td, but more importantly special teams and defense added another 14 points. the 2001 ravens seem a lot to me like the 2007 bears.
in other news, the pats blew a huge 18 point lead, and couldn’t run out the clock against the colts. the biggest series was one where NE got tagged for a 5 yard penalty (12 men on the field, seems like a pretty dumb penalty to me), and then couldn’t get the 15 yards for a 1st down which would have made it much harder for indy. but in that series, they didn’t run it at all! they passed for a combined 11 yards, then had an incompletion on 3rd and 4. to their credit, it was looking good until the incompletion on 3rd and 4, since on 1st and 2nd down NE caught the ball and stayed inbounds…but still, why not run on the colts? the colts?
actually, NE’s rushing in general wasn’t great. dillion has only 48 yards, and maroney was non existent with 8 carries for 13 yards. meanwhile the colts had a combined 125 yards w/ addai and rhodes. ridiculous.
to give manning credit tho, he did follow thru with the game winning touchdown drive from his own 20. the peyton of old would have just choked in that situation.
so its the colts and bears. i call bears because i hate the colts, and poor defense never wins. and the whole bears and ravens parallel.
i mean, look at it, you have the colts, who have passing oriented offense w/ manning, and the giants, who had collins. collins threw four INTs against the ravens - and i bet manning will do the same. plus, the colts won’t get 125 yards on the ground with addai and rhodes, and won’t come close to the 350 yards manning put up on sunday.
another note, there are rumors that the raiders are going to go after michael vick. the idea is they trade porter (who is disgruntled), moss (who is burnt out and belligerent) plus a #1 for vick. how f’ing sick
would that be?! i would totally shell out for season tics if they picked up vick.
What’s funny is the raiders tried out vick jr by picking up aaron brooks. then, after his complete and utter failure, al davis realized he actually had to spend some money to get anywhere. it’s like buying a porsche boxter thinking that you’ll be able to pick up girls like a magnet, but only finding out that you’ll need a 911 carrera to get anything but transvestites.
I mean, sure, vick has his problems. the whole water bottle/weed thing wasn’t his best moment. but give him a good coach, and strengthen the offensive line (and they’ll have money for it with porter and moss gone), and vick can actually do something.
i don’t know a lot about football, but i’ve played enough madden to know this will work. i mean, if i can win the madden bowl on ‘rookie’ with brooks, imagine how far i’ll get with vick? all-madden madden bowl champion? shiiieet.
