by Thurmonds.  In, what is most likely going to be one of the more ironic twists of the year, genealogy tests confirmed that Al Sharpton’s ancestors were owned as slaved by the ancestors of the late Strom Thurmond.

Yes, Sharpton, the outspoken champion for black rights, has ties to none other than Strom Thurmond, who has, let’s say, a less than stellar record for protecting civil rights.

Said Sharpton, “It was probably the most shocking thing I had ever heard in my life.”

While remarkable, this finding speaks to the power of the Internet, computers, DNA and the like.  No word yet if Sharpton and Thurmond families will get together for a Christmas reunion this year.
