Phonescoop is reporting that the head of Google’s Spanish and Portuguese operations, Isabel Aguilera, has confirmed that the company is working on a phone.
According to the article, Google’s engineers are working on the phone in their 20% time - time which Google gives their employees to work on their own projects.
The twist here is that this phone is supposedly targeted at developing countries - not the high-end smartphone market. That leaves the question, is this the ‘Google Switch’ phone that the Internet has been hyping, or a separate phone entirely? Perhaps Ms. Aguilera has laid a red herring upon us?
The article is here, but lots of luck if you don’t understand spanish. Babelfish does a decent translation.

From Fark
Florida Chief Justice Fred Lewis thinks he’s funny. During one of his hearings for a black man arrested for a noise violation, Judge Lewis said “don’t tell me he’s playing that atrocious rap music on the boombox.” The defender responded by suggesting the music could have been classical. Then they both looked at the defendant and started laughing.
I made that last part up.
This article also discusses a separate incident where Judge Lewis suggested that a hispanic homeless man is not a NASCAR fan. The judge even says, “I’m going to slip in again, making determinations based on appearances…”
These remarks do seem pretty inappropriate - particularly for a courtroom. But really, is the ‘diversity and sensitivity’ emergency session necessary? I mean, for one, does this old white guy look like he’ll ever become any more or less sensitive? Secondly, justice is blind, but even she knows black people listen to rap music.

Japadamus.com reported this a while ago, but CNBC today reported that Google is rumored to be working on a smart phone in partnership with Samsung. They mentioned that Google is looking to integrate Voip and existing cell phone networks in order to deliver connectivity.
Too bad David Faber isn’t a regular reader of Japadamus.com, to our readers this is considered “old news.”

Got this today off of Barganist.com .
Seems like a pretty sweet deal. REFURB Cuisinart Griddler for $49.99. I saw this thing in Macy’s for around $200. Looks good, feels solid - not like that plasticy george foreman.
You get different cooking plates for grilling and griddling, and after you cook, they come off so you can put them in the dishwasher, not like the foreman where you are scraping off pieces of burnt hamburger with that little plastic comb thing.
It’s remanufactured, and if you look on Amazon there is someone that has a beef with manufactured products from Cuisinart. In my experience, I love remanufactured stuff because it’s so cheap, and usually the quality is fine. Plus, if you have a problem it’s covered by a warranty like a new product. I get all my computers remanufactured, and haven’t had any problems with them.
In any case, I picked one up today. I’ll post a review when it arrives. FYI, links lead to our amazon account, so if you buy one it’ll help make us some $$!

Good Day,
Let me start by introducing myself. I am Mr. Patrick Chan (Executive
Director and Chief Financial Officer) of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd. I have an
obscured business suggestion for you.
Before the U.S and Iraqi war our client Gen. Abbas Radhi Ismail who was with
the Iraqi forces and also businessman made a numbered fixed deposit for 18
calendar months, with a value of (Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand
United States
Dollars only) in my branch. Upon maturity several notices was sent to him,
even during the war which began in 2003. Again after the war another
notification was sent and still no response came from him. We later find out
that the General along with his wife and only daughter had been killed
during the war in a bomb blast that hit their home.
After further investigation it was also discovered that Gen. Abbas Radhi
Ismail did not declare any next of kin in his official papers including the
paper work of his bank deposit. And he also confided in me the last time he
was at my office that no one except me knew of his deposit in my bank. So,
Twenty Four million Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars is still
lying in my bank and no one will ever come forward to claim it. What bothers
me most is that according to the laws of my country at the expiration of 5
years the funds will revert to the ownership of the Hong Kong Government if
nobody applies to claim the funds.
Against this backdrop, my suggestion to you is that I will like you as a
foreigner to stand as the next of kin to Gen. Abbas Radhi Ismail so that you
will be able to receive his funds.
MODALITIES:
I want you to know that I have had everything planned out so that we shall
come out successful. I have an attorney that will prepare the necessary
document that will back you up as the next of kin to Gen. Abbas Radhi
Ismail, all that is required from you at this stage is for you to provide me
with your Full Names and Address so that the attorney can commence his job.
After you have been made the next of kin, the attorney will also fill in for
claims on your behalf and secure the necessary approval and letter of
probate in your favor for the move of the funds to an account that will be
provided by you.
There is no risk involved at all in this matter, as we are going adopt a
legalized method and the attorney will prepare all the necessary documents.
Please endeavor to observe utmost discretion in all matters concerning this
issue.
Once the funds have been transferred to your nominated bank account we shall
then share in the ratio of 70% for me, 30% for you. Should you be interested
please send me your the following:
1. Full names
2. Private phone/fax
3. Current residential address
and I will prefer you reach me on my private email address below and finally
after that I shall provide you with more details of this operation.
Your earliest response to this letter will be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Mr. Patrick Chan.
