From Cnn.com, Careerbuilder.com.  A study from the Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands is claiming that smokers are less productive than non-smokers.  According to the study, smokers took 11 more sick days than non-smokers and have “poorer-than-average work performance and productivity.”  According to Petter Lundborg, Ph.D., the economist who conducted the study, companies ca reduce the number of sick days taken by implementing non-smoking policies.  The study had a sample size of more than 14,000 swedish workers.

You know, I’m really getting tired of all this anti-smoking shit.  Ok, I understand not smoking on planes, in hospitals, in restaurants, etc.  But this is just getting ridiculous.  Smoking is a bad habit, sure, and it increases your chance of getting cancer…right, we got it.

Why not tell the 300 pound girl in the cubicle next door to get on a treadmill…let’s see that in the HR handbook.  Or how about these bikers?  They have a much greater risk of ending up beneath a semi - why don’t we implement an anti-biking policy as well?

The thing is, there are two types of people in this world, people who bitch about shit like smoking, and people who have to listen to the aforementioned.  And I’ll tell you what, a cigarette now and then is the very least I need to put up with these whiners.
