A Picture is Worth 1000 Words
If you want to understand why I am so dissatisfied with pizza in Hawaii, all you have to do is look at the picture below. It’s from the homepage of the the largest local pizza chain in my hometown. It’s good pizza, but not the best in the area. It’s also not the cheapest.
Also, I feel I should mention, here is the text and photo from the buffalo wings menu:
“Our plump and crispy chicken wings are served with your choice of Buffalo-style (mild, medium, hot, or XXX), barbecue, or garlic.
1/2 Dozen - $3.25
One Dozen - $6.50
Small Tray of 50 - $24.95
Large Tray of 100 - $47.99″
I guarantee that these wings come with two things: a side of celery sticks and Bleu Cheese Dressing. Why bleu cheese instead of ranch? Because we’re not savages.
What some of you may not realize is that where I’m from, every town has at least one restaurant that does nothing but buffalo wings. That’s why I bitch when the best I can get out here include the word “teri” somewhere in their description.

Hey, what are you complaining about the pizza here? You can get a sheet tray of pizza that looks JUST LIKE THAT at the Punahou cafeteria!
What’s weird in Hawaii is that there are not a whole lot of authentic italians, so when your friends point you in the direction of a good italian restaurant it’s probably more of the CPK variety.
With that said, I like more mainstream italian food. CPK is decent, and I remeber when it opened in Kahala Mall it was a big deal.
