"I don’t know if this is a typical italian personality . . . ."

Yeah, pretty much, it is. It's one of a few versions of the Italian stereotype. Italians value machismo and directness, but it should be done with some sort of witty flair. And if you're not witty, you just go for "flair."

That guy sounds not so much like "Italian" in general, though, but really more like "New York City Italian-American." From your description, I would be willing to bet a large sum of money that the restaurant was probably in Brooklyn.

The restaurnt is long island. Don't know where that is in relation to Brooklyn tho.

I'm wondering if the godfather and the sopranos has produced two generations of italian wanna-be-mobsters. I mean, this guy dressed and acted the part...but without an actual mob background, this meant he was just a big pain in the ass that bossed people around.

You have it backwards: Mafiosi dress like that because they're Italian. Italians don't dress like that to look like mobsters.

Technically, Brooklyn is on Long Island. It's just the Western-most tip. As you go further East it gets progressively Jew-ier and Asian-ier. Until you end up in the Hamptons.
