New iPhone 1.1.3 firmware features?
Every tech blog is reporting this now, but apparently GearLive has gotten their hands on the upcoming 1.1.3 iPhone firmware update, and there are some pretty awesome new features.
First of all, the interface is more flexible. You can edit your home screen and drag icons around. You can also send an SMS message to multiple contacts.
But the most interesting feature in my opinion is pseudo-GPS. According to rumors, 1.1.3 will allow you to find your general position in Google Maps via cell tower triangulation.
If true, this would be pretty valuable, allowing users not only to look up stuff, but actually find their current location. Sure, triangulation isn’t as accurate as true GPS, but it would go a long way to developing directions and generally making the app more useful.
But I’m a bit skeptical about these rumors…it sounds more like a 1.2 update, rather than a 1.1.3 update. I mean, these are big time features, unlike the prior 0.0.1 updates that have already been released. These screen shots could be created with a jailbroken iphone.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see…but if these rumors are true they’ll be pretty sweet.
